Our Promise
As we were planning out the Agrarian Guild and what key components will be the mantra of the members, we were reminded of a "Pledge" we once saw on the internet, and it goes something like this:

"Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds."
To meet this pledge, we do diligent research into the seeds we use in our gardens. We do show people how to start their seed saving journey with seeds purchased anywhere. How is this possible for us, or the member, be able to hold up to this pledge?

An interesting fact about genetic modification:
Year One (1): Seeds are purchased at a big box discount retailer. The harvest is somewhat successful as the germination rate of the seeds can be low. Take the seeds from the best example of that crop and save them for the next growing season
Year Two (2): You pull those seeds out of cold storage to plant your next round of gardening. At harvest, once again keep the seeds of the ones you liked the best to plant during the next season. Continue this trend as you fine tune the attributes of the food you are growing, in the same conditions every year. When you reach year seven (7), the seeds that you planting have naturally genetically modified themselves to produce the best crop that is perfect for your growing conditions.

The only thing that is preventing us from being GMP Certified is the lack of a physical location.
