Prepperology 101 - Common Terms

Like anything, when a group of people come together, they start to create their own lingo. Those who have been following Guilds of Requiem, Inc. know that this has definitely happened. The prepper community certainly has over the last several decades. Here are the basics that help get you started.

ABAO - All Bets Are Off - This is the time where your prepping is the most crucial. This event could be social and economical collapse. Invasion by hostile forces. Catastrophic weather events.

BIB - Bug In Bag - this is a bag that you carry with you at all times. It contains three (3) days supply of food, water, and meds at the minimum. When the SHTF and you have no choice but to stay where you are until it is safer to leave.

BOB - a BIB can quickly become your Bug Out Bag. By having it with you, you are already prepared to get the hell out of Dodge. This bag can also be located in your home, with one for each family member, to grab at a moment's notice and evacuate the area.

BOL - When leaving with your BOB, you should have a predetermined location to go to. Everyone in your community circle would also know this location where shelter, food stores, and ammo is located. Make sure everyone in your group knows how to read a map and how to find their current location on that map with directions to the location.

BOV - Bug out Vehicle. When leaving on foot is your last option, you should have a vehicle that is quickly loaded and on the road to your location. We highly recommend that it be an older vehicle that does not have a computer that can be fried by an EMP. We also recommend keeping the battery out of it and a Faraday container of sorts. This protects your electronics and assures that you will be able to get to your safer location. On the vehicle should contain extra gas. There are several models that can have the gas cans attached to the back gate of your vehicle along with an extra spare tire.

EDC - Every Day Carry - While some feel this is the same as a BIB/BOB, it technically refers to what you have on your person for all times to protect yourself and your family.

EMP - Electro Magnetic Pulse - This frequently happens with a nuclear detonation, but can also occur from natural cosmetic causes. EMP would take out all electronic devices, including the power grid, cell phones, computers, appliances, cars with electronic ignition, etc. for hundreds of miles.

JIC - Just In Case - These are items that you have just in case a specific event happens. Most commonly it is found in a vehicle with safety equipment: jumper cables, road side flares, first aid kit, mylar blankets, etc. We recommend that it includes a battery power pack that has solar panel to recharge.

SHTF - Shit Hit The Fan - Yep, we said it. This can be from any event that requires the use of prepping plans.

WOR and YOYO - With Out Rule and You Are on Your Own - This is exactly as it sounds. Social conventions have been tossed out the window and you have only yourself to rely on from that point forward.

We hope this helps with a better understanding of the mindset behind many preppers.
